About Peter Brukner

Peter Brukner is a specialist sports and exercise physician who has most recently served as the Australian cricket team doctor for the past five years.

Peter is the founding partner of Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre in Melbourne and Professor of Sports Medicine at La Trobe University.1

A founding Executive Member of the Australasian College of Sports Physicians, he served two terms as President (1998-2000). 2

Peter is the co-author of the widely used textbook Clinical Sports Medicine 3 and has been the team sports physician for professional football clubs and national athletics, swimming, soccer, and men’s hockey teams, including the Olympics and Commonwealth Games.

Peter was the Socceroos Team Doctor at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and more recently Head of Sports Medicine and Sports Science at Liverpool Football Club.

Dr. Brukner is the recipient of the prestigious 2025 Senior Australian of the Year Victoria award4

He co-founded the public health campaign Sugar By Half 5 and is committed to improving the nation’s health through better diets and increased physical activity. 

Peter played a key role in establishing sports medicine as a medical specialty in Australia.
